Description
As seen in Two Coast-Lovers Meet the Country, we built our surrounding pool deck using TimberTech® composite boards in Weathered Teak. While the material is more expensive than traditional hardwood — typically around $15–$35 per square foot — it tends to balance out over time thanks to its near zero-maintenance design. According to the company, TimberTech decking can last 25 to 50+ years without the annual staining or sealing required for natural wood.
One feature we appreciated early on was TimberTech’s sample program. They’ll send board samples shortly after you request them, allowing you to compare colors and get a feel for the weight and durability before committing. We debated whether to choose a color that stood out or something that blended more naturally with our surroundings. In the end, we’re very happy with the “au naturel” look of Weathered Teak — especially considering how rare and costly that much real teak would be in the wild.
Our deck has already weathered its first winter of surprisingly strong wind and thunder storms here in California, and it still looks as fresh as the day it was installed.
TimberTech decking is widely available through major retailers like Lowe’s, specialty lumber and deck suppliers, and directly through the company’s website. Prices start around $20.00 for a 1-in x 6-in composite deck board and range up from there.
